Post subject: | New Modem |
I'll probably be installing a new modem in the next 24-48 hours. The signal issues turned out to be localized at my modem/bridge as the result of an unsolicited firmware update from my ISP provider. Until then, I've disabled the forced ipv6 address handling which was sending the rest of my home network into chaos (I should really switch over to ipv6, but I haven't made time to learn enough about it). I'm hoping this will limit the frequency of service outages until I can acquire and install the new modem. |

It figures. You buy a $220 gateway and then your old gateway resumes normal operation... Almost a week of uninterrupted service since I disabled ipv6 on the old gateway. I suppose I'll have to find another use for this $220. |

Disaster! I no sooner return the modem and we have another outage. The gods must be crazy! We had intermittent up-time for Saturday night, but I took the modem down on Sunday morning. 19.5 hours, 1 technician, 3 operators, and one dogged web admin later and we are back online! I decided to rent a modem from my ISP in lieu of buy a new one, but it cost me an entire day of family-time and schoolwork. With that kind of sacrifice, we should be back to smooth sailing on the web server front. |
